Daymark Living is a groundbreaking campus where adults with intellectual, cognitive or development disabilities can live, learn, and thrive. The campus sits on 40 acres near historic downtown Waxahachie and includes 28 cottages and community buildings for dining, fitness and education. Our Camp Based Life Coaches is a special needs teacher/assistant and caregiver support person responsible for assisting adults with special needs learn independent living skills by planning and coordinating opportunities for residents that promote a level of health, well-being, engagement, and growth.
This paid internship is specifically for the Months May- August (flexible dates) and requires a minimum commitment of 1 month whether full time or part time. The hours are generally 6:45-3:15 or 3-11pm. We are flexible and willing to work with your availability. Experience is not necessary, and we will work with you to gain life changing experience in this unique position. Our Camp Based Life Coaches will work with a smaller group of residents, fostering growth and independence while having fun here on our beautiful campus.

This position generally works 6:45-3:15 or 3-11pm
Pay ranges from $9.75-$14.00 Depending on experience
Age Range is 18 and up.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and conducting activities and programs that provide physical, intellectual, social, vocational, emotional and spiritual opportunities for the campers.
  • Provide assistance in learning life skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting, hygiene and appropriate social interaction
  • Works with other Coaches in functions and assists in coordinating events from beginning to end including setup, running, and breaking down for the event
  • Provides ongoing communication and interaction with campers.
  • Organizes and supervises volunteer staff.
  • Will accompany residents to off-site activities.
  • Teach classes based on subjects of common interest.
  • Documents incidents, resident activity participation and progress on goals.
  • Interacts with residents, campers, guests and staff in at atmosphere of hospitality.
  • Protects the privacy of the resident when communicating oral and written information.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Passion and a desire to bring joy and teach life skills to our IDD campers.
  • Experience working with adults with IDD or a passion to serve others.
  • Satisfactory MVR for persons who will drive.
  • Background (or desire to gain experience) in Special Education, Activity Therapy, Recreation Therapy, or Music Therapy, Social Work and teaching.
  •  Must at all times meet background checks as well as employability conditions of the Employee Misconduct Registry (EMR) and Nurse Aid Registry (NAR), as maintained by Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities (TDADS)
